CAREER OBJECTIVE I am a highly organised and determined individual who wants to build a successful career in publishing. I would like to build on my keen interest in literature and thrive in the type of pressurised, changing environment where my natural efficiency and communication skills are an asset.

Dissertation – Final Year My dissertation was called:  “What is so controversial about Flaubert’s and Lawrence’s depictions of adultery?”, and questioned whether or not it is just because they are novels of adultery that makes them controversial? For this project I: Thoroughly researched a wide range of both literary and historical sources. Developed project management skills, handling competing deadlines over a long period. Developed important writing and editing skills including a very accurate attention to detail to follow multipul revisions and proof read manuscripts.

WORK EXPERIENCE   Free the Word Festival, International PEN, 16th-19th April 2009 Volunteer I was responsible for roving microphone duties, and conducting opinion surveys on the audience. I also performed duties on the bookstalls involving serving customers and cash handling. I was also on hand throughout the festival for any other duties.   Gosfield Hall Wedding Venue, February 2009 Housekeeping Assistant My main duties include cleaning of the guest rooms and some laundry duties I also play a role in hospitality including guest admissions.   School Councils UK, January 2009 Editorial Assistant (Intern) My main role is as editor on a bimonthly e-newsletter. Within this role I have to research into both global and local news stories affecting school councils, and then write stories for the newsletter and the charity’s website. I am then responsible for editing the final product from both my own stories and those written by the rest of the team. This is completed under the guidance of the Project Officer. I am also responsible for managing our blog and pages on Social Networking sites including Facebook and Twitter. Other duties include administration tasks including telephone calls and diary management. As well as financial administration using excel and Netsuite.   Kings Head Public House, June 2007 to October 2008 Waitress My main duties include serving customers, providing an efficient and friendly service. I am also responsible for maintaining a hygienic restaurant and keeping the bar well stocked. Whilst in this role I had experience of cash handling using tills, both manual and computerised.
Kent Hospitality, December 2007 to May 2008 As a representative of the university community, I was responsible for showing prospective students and their families around campus and making them feel welcome. I developed excellent communication skills, that enabled me to speak clearly and at length to large groups of people and to answer all their questions.
Gosfield Lake Golf Club,  April 2007 to December 2007 Waitress and Barmaid My main duties are serving customers in the capacity of both waitress and barmaid. I was also responsible for making sure that other staff members are being both professional and efficient.
Redds Bar,  April 2006 to May 2006 Barmaid My main duties were serving customers and making sure that the bar and tables were always clean. I was also responsible for changing barrels and keeping the store room orderly.
Larchwood Care Centre, October 2004 to October 2005 and July 2006 to September 2006 Assistant My main duties were preparing food and maintaining good hygiene within the kitchen. I was also responsible for keeping the kitchen running efficiently and on time.
Gosfield Hall, March 2001 to May 2004 Assistant My main duties were waitressing and food preparation. And I was also often given responsibility to work on my own. I was also responsible for stock taking and assisting in administrative tasks.
INTERESTS I am an avid reader which is reflected in my choice of degree. Outside of work I enjoy socialising with my friends, watching films and seeing live music.
